OUR PROCESSING

Villa has operations in many parts of the world. Our Norwegian and Scottish operations consists of primary processing, secondary processing, sales and marketing. In the US we are predominantly doing sales and marketing. In addition we are involved secondary processing in other European countries.

In 2015, Villa Seafood invested in a processing plant in Northern Norway in a joint venture with the salmon farmer Wilsgård Fiskeoppdrett. The team have vast experience within seafood processing and state-of-the-art equipment. At Arctic Fillet, technology and innovation meets experience and quality. Today, Arctic Fillet, T-1205 produces high quality fresh and frozen salmon products to quality conscious consumers all over the world. ORGANIC SEA HARVEST

Villa is one of four founding partners of Organic Sea Harvest. Organic Sea Harvest have a vision to become the leading organic salmon farmer in the world. Located on the beautiful Isle of Skye, also called “The Misty Isle”, the conditions for achieving that vision are optimal. The harvesting will commence in the summer of 2021 and Villa will be able to offer both whole fish, fillets and portions both fresh, frozen and smoked from these farms. Organic Sea Harvest is the first new fish farming company to be established in the last 30 years!

WILSGAARD FISH FARMING

Established in 1983, Wilsgård Fiskeoppdrett operates with 10 licenses, 4 of which are “green licenses”. Wilsgårds strategy fits perfectly with Villas approach for producing sustainable, high quality products. Villa cooperates closely with this farmer to get the freshest possible raw material for its filleting production. The Wilsgård harvest station and Arctic Filet processing factory are located next door to each other and feature state-of-the-art equipment to produce only the highest quality salmon products. This means we at Villa Seafood can offer pre-rigor fillets – the freshest possible fillets available.

PRIMARY PROCESSING

The first step in processing the fish is gutting and cleaning it. Our fish can be sold both as HOGs (head-on gutted) and HGs (head-off gutted). The fish is then packed with ice in special polystyrene boxes. Air packing is also available for orders, which are to be sent by plane to distant locations.

The fish can also be frozen or sent to secondary processing.

SECONDARY PROCESSING

The gutted fish, which is sent for secondary processing is cut using precise tools and packed into various packages. At our processing plant in Torsken, Arctic Filet AS, we produce a range of various products. The most common product types include fillets and portions. SUPERFREEZE

FREEZING SYSTEM WITH CO2 AS REFRIGERANT

At Arctic Filet we have constructed a one of a kind freezing system based on the Superfreeze technology from partner Kuldeteknisk. The key features of this system are:

  • Freezing at -50
  • High quality
  • High efficiency
  • Heat recovery
  • Excellent hygiene

Using CO2 as refrigerant allows us to freeze at temperatures down to -50oC. Freezing at such low temperatures not only results in an excellent quality, but also allows for efficient handling of the products. Our freezer is designed in a way that allows a constant flow of products without any build-up of products at any stage.

Making cold air means taking heat out of the air. We have installed a heat recovery system which allows us to capture this heat and re-use it for other purposes, for instance heating water for cleaning the plant.
